I’m just sitting here watching rugby videos and wishing it was on tv

One of the interesting things about rugby gameplay, for those unfamiliar, a player doesn’t score by crossing the goal line, but by touching the ball to the ground in the goal section after crossing the goal line. A defensive player can prevent the score by preventing the player from getting the ball to the ground. Also, wherever the ball is grounded laterally (side to side) in the goal is where the conversion (point after touchdown) must be attempted from. Ground the ball in the center of the goal and it’s an easy kick. Ground the ball towards the edge and it’s a tough sideways kick attempt. For this reason you’ll often see a player run the ball to the center once he’s in the goal before grounding it. Sometimes I wonder how much more interesting the PAT would be in American football if this rule was adopted.

Agreed. Much better than watching football.

I played football through HS then once I got to college I tried rugby and was hooked. After that, football is so easy. You only have to run for 10 seconds or so, then you get a 30 second rest before you go again. Rugby just keeps rolling along.

I really struggle to watch football nowadays. Good thing their is DVR. I miss playing for sure, but now I’m too old and can’t afford to get injured. Adulting is tough sometimes... still fun to watch though.

Im heading to Edinburgh from February 19th through the 25th. On the 24th, Scotland is playing France (I think) in Edinburgh, which is also the day my gf and I are having our anniversary. I am contemplating possibly the stupidest, but most awesome date ever! (its probably a lot more stupid than awesome, in her eyes anyway).

American sports are made for drinking beer and eating food. Not watching sports.

Ahh...good old Thugby...such foolish things from my yoof.

Even as an Aussie, I could watch the late great All Black winger Jonah Lomu running over Englishmen all day...

There’s a lot of truth in that statement.

I love international rugby. And they just don’t show it much at all here in the US. I used to watch the Tri Nations, the Six Nations, the WC, all of it. Every time I watch American football with all that “plane of the goal line” bullshit I just shake my head. “His knee was down 3 inches before his momentum carried him over the goal line.” That oughta be a TD. American football is just so stupid.

You were saying? This guy was amazing. He ran over more than a few Wallabies in his day, too.

Right now I’m watching the recording of a BBL cricket match I recorded a couple of weeks ago. I like it, though there is a lot of cricket terminology that is absolutely inscrutable to me.
